First Nations’ Portal on
Environmental Contaminants
and Health

Chemical contaminants in the environment may represent significant threats to human health. First Nations peoples may be more vulnerable to the effects of environmental contaminants due to their close connection to the land for culture, identity, food, traditional harvesting and lifestyle activities.

The First Nations’ portal on environmental contaminants and health aims to provide information resources for First Nations interested in conducting environmental contaminants and health-related research and monitoring initiatives and serves as a tool to explore available information resources and collaborative opportunities with academic scientists and research organizations.

The First Nations Selection Committee is composed of one regional First Nation representative from six regions (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic (including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island)) and one representative from the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) who have expertise in environmental health research and experience working with First Nation communities in conducting community health-related environmental contaminants research initiatives.
